B-29 pilot David Sutherland returned home after World War II eager to begin the next chapter of his life. In 1951, he founded David H. Sutherland & Co., Inc. as a one-man operation exporting a variety of North American products, initially to Japan. Working out of a phone booth in a downtown hotel lobby in Portland, Oregon, David began establishing the international network our company serves today.
With the post-war aviation boom, David saw an opportunity to serve a growing industry as a global aerospace and high-performance materials supplier, starting with Boeing’s first offset programs at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Japan. Year by year, as the company’s experience and expertise grew, DH Sutherland focused more and more on the aerospace market.
Today, we’re a full-service technical resource and supplier of time- and temperature-sensitive materials. From our 20,000-square-foot office and warehouse in Beaverton, Oregon, our team serves customers in the Americas, Asia, and Europe. We partner with a wide variety of domestic and international manufacturers to get our customers exactly what they need, exactly when they need it.
